Long's shutout helps HU split softball twinbill against Indiana Wesleyan

Molly Long's shutout victory in game one helped the Huntington University softball team split its doubleheader against host Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 11, winning 3-0 and losing 5-4.

The Lady Foresters blanked their opponents in game one thanks to Long's pitching and a two-run triple from Brita Kuiper in the sixth inning. Keri Badenhop's RBI single added the final run of the game.

Brittany Gower and Badenhop each had two hits.

Long quieted the hosts' bats on five hits and one walk, while striking out nine batters.
Defensive errors ruined the team's chance at a sweep in game two.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh with a 4-2 lead, the Lady Foresters gave up three hits, a throwing error and a passed ball, which gifted the Lady Wildcats three runs.

Lauren Ward threw 6 2/3 innings in the losing effort, allowing only two earned runs among the five on eight hits and two walks, while striking out nine batters.

Ashley McCann had two RBI on the night.

The Lady Foresters are now 16-12 on the season, 4-6 in Mid-Central College Conference play.
