Offense leads HU baseball team past Rochester twice

Led by an impressive offensive production, the Huntington University baseball team swept host Rochester College on Saturday, April 11, by scores of 11-6 and 9-7.

In game one, the game stayed close up until the fifth inning, when the Foresters exploded for a five-run outing, including Edwin Rodriguez's two-run triple. Eric Schultz, Eric Harpring and Rodriguez all had two hits and Rodriguez had a game-high five RBIs.

Pitcher Eric Randel captured the win, throwing six innings and giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three batters.

Game two was much closer, with both teams trading runs in the second and fourth innings. The Foresters took charge of the game with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings and the insurance run in the seventh.

Offensive production came from Jarod Hammel and Schultz, who each had three hits, and Ryan Shell and Cody Richey, with two RBI each.

Harping was the winning pitcher, throwing 4-1/3 innings and giving up four runs on four hits and five walks. He also struck out two batters.

Travis Frantz secured the save for the Foresters.

The team's record is 20-12 on the season.
