Andrews asks residents not to flush certain items

The Town of Andrews asks that residents do not flush products such as disinfecting wipes down the toilet.

While such wipes may be labeled as “flushable,” the town says they do not break down like toilet paper. These wipes ultimately cause problems at the wastewater treatment plant and can clog residents’ plumbing, leading to backups and breaks. The cost of repairs falls on residents in their capacities as homeowners, as well as taxpayers, should the treatment plant incur damage.

In addition to disinfecting wipes, other non-flushable products include baby wipes, paper towels, napkins, tissues, gauze, bandages, feminine hygiene products and diapers. All of these products should be thrown away in the trash.
