Local karate club members do well at tourney

Several members of Genbu-Kai Karate of Indiana in Huntington received high scores after they participated in the Back To School Brawl Tournament in Huntington on Sept. 7.

Results of Genbu-Kai Karate of Indiana’s competitors are:

• Dietrich Barker – third place, 7 to 8-year-old novice kata.

• Kaitlyn Neal – second place, 13 to 14-year-old novice kata.

• Mason Payton – first place, 9 to 10-year-old intermediate kata; and first place, 9 to 10-year-old intermediate kobudo kata.

• Nathan Mygrant – first place, 15 to 17-year-old intermediate kata; second place, 15 to 17-year-old intermediate kobudo kata; and 13 to 17-year-old grand champion kata.

• Alec Ellsworth – second place, 18 to 34-year-old novice kata; and first place, 18 to 34-year-old novice kobudo kata.

• Kevin McGregor – first place, 18 to 35-year-old advanced men’s kata; first place 18 to 35-year-old advanced men’s kobudo kata; first place, 18 to 35-year-old advanced men’s sparring; grand champion, adult kata; and grand champion, adult kobudo kata.

• Andy Norman – first place, 35+ year-old advanced men’s kata; and first place, 35+ year-old advanced men’s kobudo kata.

• Sensei Dawn Anderson – first place, women’s first to third degree black belt kata; first place, women’s first to third degree black belt kobudo kata; and grand champion, women’s kata.
